Festival Favourites

Festival favourites

The festival season is just about to start so I have come up with a few must have beauty products to get through the weekend.
I have been to a few camping festivals in the past including Glastonbury last year. I asked a few experienced festival goers  – what essential products  should you take to a festival?

The first thing I worried about was what would I be eating. It was a long journey from the car to the campsite so I knew I needed to pack lightly. The food was relatively cheap with some quite healthy but with that extra drinking (if that applies to you) or fast food it’s always good to have some extra supplies.

Here are a few of my festival favourites…

zam

Zambroza

Antioxidant drink

This is my saviour product especially if by mistake you drink more than you ought to.  Have a couple of shots of this before you sleep.  It’s very high in antioxidants so it will help kill off any free radical damage and I found that I would wake up feeling well. This is also great for those who have a low immune system – it will prevent you getting ill.

Please contact me tmonique.1uk@gmail.com

Syner

Synerprotein_original Shake powder

I have heard some of these festivals are now providing a big choice on healthy foods. This is a great shake to have first thing in the morning preventing that hunger feeling. It will also provide you with all the nutrients you need for the day.

The pot this comes in is  quite big to carry, so best to empty the amount you need into a plastic bag that will seal easily.

Please contact me to order: Monique.1uk@gmail.com

Muslin clothsMuslin Cloth

You may be tempted with face-wipes as the ideal travel make-up remover, however they do contain a lot of chemicals and I know for myself  I have sensitive skin so I can come up in a rash. I also find they leave a residue and so your face is not totally clean.

A great tip is to buy a few muslin cloths, decant your cleanser into a smaller bottle so it is not too heavy to carry, massage into the face and wipe off with a cloth it maybe a little bit more pricey but you can keep and re-use the cloths afterwards.

Here is a website where you can buy a pack of organic cloths

Neals yard wild rose beauty balmNeals Yard wild rose

This is a great 3 in 1 product

You can use this as a cleanser which you can remove with a muslin cloth its an effective cleanser removing all makeup with out drying the skin,

This is also a fantastic night balm apply before going to sleep and leaves the skin hydrated and glowing and great to use on dry areas such as elbows knees and the lips.

* the packing can be slightly heavy but you can put what you need in a lighter container

Dry Shampoo – Klorane

Everyone I asked this was in their top ten must-take items! Batiste is a common favourite, however if you are looking for a more gentle formulation. I would recommend Klorane which contains soothing oat milk.

If you are on a budget You can also use cornstarch as this is the main ingredient in some of the products being sold it helps soak up the grease.

Nilaqua Waterlesss Body productsWaterless body products

This is great as an alcohol-free no-rinse body wash collection. These products are ideal at a festival  as having a decent shower may not be possible!

MAC eyeliner

This is my favorite eyeliner of all times. I would recommend the MAC pro longwear pencil. You can feel confident that it will last the whole day and won’t smudge under the eyes if its rains – this is especially good news due to  the lack of mirrors in the toilets!

Bare essentials mineral powder

This is a light powder which give great coverage.  Mineral based powders do not block the pores so its ok if you forget to remove your makeup before you go to sleep. It also contains a spf 15 with titanium dioxde which will protect your skin in the (hopefully!) sunny weather.

If you have any other top tips or must take products – please tell me in the comments box below!

Combating dry skin

As the days are getting colder and duller we find ourselves inside more with the heating on and you will probably find that your skin maybe come more sensitive due to the change in temperatures.

I have found some lovely products which will help protect your skin and keep you hydrated over the next couple of months.

Here are some of my favourite winter rescue remedies…

Barefoot botanicals

I really love the Barefoot product range as it helps soothe sensitive skins as well as keeping it hydrated.  It does all this without  you feeling as though you have a thick cream on your skin – as its doesnt sit on the surface. They have a range of organic products which are suited for sensitive skins, but a must have this winter is their SOS cream.

You can use this on your face and body and is great for eczema and psoriasis sufferers

Barefoot-botanicals-Skincare

Ren Mayday Mayday Rescue balm

This balm contains Lactic Acid which helps improve the condition of peeling and chapped skin while Prebiotic Oligosaccharides and Antileukine from Ochroleuca Seaweed Extract protect the skin against inflammation. Chamomile and Pink Violet help to calm redness and soothe minor irritation.

It is great for dry, very dry, irritated, chapped or peeling skin and is especially suitable for dry areas, such as hands, elbows, lips, knees and any area where extra TLC is needed.

Gently exfoliate

For those who suffer from dry flakey skin, remember that the flaking skin is dead skin so no matter how much moisturizer you use on it – it’s not going to help – you have to  remove the dead skin before moisturising.

I am always telling people to invest in a good exfoliator. There are many exfoliators on the market but you need to be careful to choose a good one. Many contain quite coarse granules and it may look and feel as though it is doing a good job  but what you will not see is that the coarse granules  will actually be scratching your skin  and making it more sensitive.

I am a ‘HUGE’ fan of the Trilogy exfoliator I may have mentioned it a few times now but it really is  the best one I have come across in years.  As well as being moisturising you can really feel the granules but without it irritating the skin.

I have recently started using the Arbonne exfoliator. I would recommend it for those with very sensitive skins. You can only slightly feel the granules and you can leave this on like a mask. It has a lovely fresh smell and the results are great – leaving your skin clean and glowing.

To purchase this product you need to contact a consultant

Monique 07984351859

*  A great tip is to use the exfoliator on your lips –  this will help soften and smooth the lips and help with any flakeyness!

Oil it up

Oils are fantastic for dry skin – you should be using them all year round or if you have kept one stored in your beauty box –  this is the time to bring it out! They penetrate a lot deeper into the skin than creams and really moisturize the skin.

Which one to choose?

I have recently been taking Optimum blend oil from Holland and Barratt. This is one of their organic oils which I love. Ok I know this is a supplement – but trust me it also works as a fantastic face oil.  I came across this as I had  run out of face oil and that day I had been talking to another therapist about piercing Vitamin E capules and applying the oil to the skin. As I was taking the Optimum blend oil as a supplement – I thought I would see what it was like as a face oil- and I was very pleasantly surprised with the results the following day. It had helped reduce a rash I had on one  cheek and my skin looked fantastic.

The oil contains Omega 3 and 6 – as Omega helps with inflammation it is also great for ezcema and you can use it anywhere on the body. A client of mine found it worked great on her hair line. The only drawback its that it smells a bit like cooking oil  (thankfully not fish oil ) but an easy way to get around this is to buy organic essential oils such as rose, lavender or camomile and mix the two – although use no more that 10 drops of essential oil.

 A few other brands

Here are a few other brands which I would recommend as a winter wonder.

Lips

The majority of people find that their lips become dryer in winter.  I personally don’t use lip balm that often as I found I kept needing to apply more and more – I then discovered  that it was all to do with certain ingredients they have put inside.

I have tried many organic balms but quite a few are scented with essential oils which I really didn’t like the taste of. However my favourite so far is – Balm Balm with Rose & geranium.

Experts Recommend Vitamin D

EXPERTS RECOMMEND VITAMIN D
Research revealed today recommends that “Fair-skinned people who are prone to sunburn may need to take supplements to ensure they get enough vitamin D.”
Supplements are already recommended for groups at higher risk of deficiency. This includes people with dark skin, such as people of African-Caribbean and South Asian origin, and people who wear full-body coverings, as well as the elderly, young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women and people who avoid the sun.
Based on the latest findings, it appears that pale-skinned people should be added to this list.
Vitamin D ‘The Sunshine Vitamin’
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin best known for its roles in preventing rickets and maintaining proper levels of calcium in the blood.  The ‘Sunshine Vitamin’ is generally acquired by the body in two ways – exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and dietary intake.
Vitamin is an important factor in the maintenance of good health, furthermore Vitamin D helps in the development and maintenance of bones and teeth, and the absorption and use of calcium & phosphorus.
Studies also suggest that Vitamin D may play a part in slowing the ageing process and the onset of age-related diseases. Anti-Ageing Researchers theorise that inflammation and oxidative stress play roles in the ageing process, and that Vitamin D decreases the levels of compounds that may cause inflammation in the body.
Findings from a study published in 2007 suggest that Vitamin D may play a part in slowing the ageing process and the onset of age-related diseases
High Demand For Winter Months
Nature’s Sunshine’s Vitamin D is an ideal supplement for the autumn and winter months when many of us often don’t see the sun on a daily basis.
In fact, last November Nature’s Sunshine experienced such a high demand for our Vitamin D product that our stocks were totally depleted and extra supplies had to shipped in on a special delivery to meet distributor orders.

Secret tips to have younger looking eyes!

As a Facialist a common area of concern for aging are the eyes, whether its to remove dark circles, reduce puffiness or prevent wrinkles.  Below you find some top tips and advice that you may not have heard of to give yourself brighter and younger looking eyes.

Serums/ or gels rather than eye creams.

Try using either eye gels or eye serums as Eye creams tend to be thick in texture and heavy on ingredients ( ie mineral oil).   As they only sit on the surface of the skin this can be a common cause of milia, which are the white lumps under the skin and they are hard to remove. This also applies to a lot of face creams so only apply the face cream up to the top of the cheek bone.  Note: the removal of milia should be done by a professional therapist.

For more information about mila removal you can contaact me monique.1uk@gmail.com 07984351859

 Less is more

A lot of women think if they apply layer upon layers of creams or serum that it will make more of a difference but you would be wrong, the skin around the eye area is only a couple of layers, so it will only soak up what it needs then the rest will just sit there.  It can also be the cause of dark circles as well as a waste.  Many surgeons are now scooping out excess eye cream from inside the skin while doing eye surgery. So next time you apply your eye gel remember less is more.

Tip: When applying eye gels or serum apply above the eyelids too or where your sunglasses would cover

Environ C quence eye gel

An effective topical alternative to Botox that is safer, milder and injection-free…at a fraction of the cost! In comparison it lasts longer, is less expensive, non-toxic and there are no needles involved!

It effectively reduces the depth of wrinkles on the face and helps prevent the formation of new lines.  The Ionzyme® C-Quence Eye Gel employs the latest cosmetic technology by using a unique combination of three super-powerful peptides, Matrixyl®, DermaxylTM and Argireline®, for use on the delicate and sensitive eye area, particularly where “crow’s-feet” and deep lines are visible

Focus Frown Serum

How can you reduce those dreaded lines caused by repeated facial expressions? Today’s stress is enough to make anyone frown – but all this frowning can only result in premature frown lines on the forehead and around the eye area.

Environ’s new Ionzyme Focus Frown Serum is a scientifically proven formula, that when applied to the targeted area, assists to smooth and soften frown lines. Frown lines become lighter, muscle tension reduces in the forehead area and deep lines become less prominent. Skin is healthier and more elastic resulting in younger, smoother looking skin.

Only the very best raw materials are used in the formula. These ingredients are individually very expensive putting them out of reach of many other cosmetic houses. It has always been Environ’s philosophy to invest in only the best ingredients that really work, rather than expensive packaging and marketing.

Drink plenty of water

Darks circles can be related to the kidneys so try to drink plenty of water. Lemon and warm water is the best way to start of your morning, but can also be taken at any time during the day.  Try to avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine. You may also want to consider doing a colon cleanse. I have just finished the 10 day course and I was amazed how my dark circles went away and how revitalised I feel. I have mentioned it before in my winter blog. (Healthy starter pack)

 Cold teaspoon

Forget about cucumbers or tea bags the best tried and tested method to invigorate the eyes is the back of a cold teaspoon.  Just leave them over night in the fridge and as soon as you wake up place the back of the teaspoons onto the eyes. The cold increases the blood lymph circulation this will also help aid removal of waste & toxins

Jade rollers are also great for the getting the circulation going.

Lypmhatic drainage Massage

This is probably one of the best methods to remove any puffiness under the eyes (puffiness is caused by excess fluid waste and toxins) it will also help plump up the muscles. Start by using your ring fingers at the temples, apply firm pressure (as long as it’s not too uncomfortable).  Draw the finger under the eyes into the socket up and around to the temples repeatedly. Do this at least 5 minutes every night when applying your eye product

Pinch around the brow area (hold each pinch for 20 secs) you can be very firm whilst doing this.  This will help relax the muscles and give it a natural lift especially around the frown area as this is a muscle that is used frequently.

Protect your eyes from the sun

We all know how bad the sun ages our skin and as the eye area is a lot thinner we have to make sure we take extra care. Make sure the serums or gels you use contain an Spf ingredients such as Zinc Dioxide or Titanium Dioxide as they are best ones to look out for both eye, face and body. It should also contain anti oxidants to protect your eyes from the environment.  This should be used all year around.  We may have cold winters but UVA rays are still present which leads to premature ageing. You should also wear appropriate sunglasses in the summer.

Prevention is better than cure

Also remember prevention is better than cure so best start as young as you can especially from the age of 21 use a good SPF or strong in antioxidents eye serum around the area and also the face. Also by massaging the eye area on a daily basis this may take up a little time now but it may save you money or even surgery in the long term.

Parents it may have been too late for you but you can help your children make sure they use good sunglasses in the summer months.

Mixing the perfect blend: First you have to choose a nice carrier oil. Almond oil & olive oil are quite a popular to go for and they are easily to get hold.  (Alternatively you can use the oil from the Oskia massage candle).

Suitable essential oils: Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Rose (It’s best to have the right blend of essential oils.)

Method: Start at the base of the spine with each hand either side of the spine apply a little pressure (always ask the partner if the pressure is ok if it’s too firm it maybe uncomfortable or if it’s too light it may tickle) massage up towards the neck and smooth out towards the shoulders

Lighten the pressure when coming back to the base, You can alternate the moves and add in some lighter strokes, keep the movement continuous.

You can incorporate massaging the pressure points by just using the thumbs.  Again start at the base applying pressure either side of the spine then release, work your way up by half an inch until you get to the neck.
